Samuel Adams Coastal Wheat has an unusual aroma and taste.
Boston Beer, maker of Samuel Adams products, is the largest craft brewer in the United States and its product line spans more than twenty different malt beverage products. Some of them are exceptional and stand as a tribute to their respective styles. But every now and then, Samuel Adams misses the mark and one beer that strikes out quickly is Samuel Adams Coastal Wheat, and American pale wheat ale

Samuel Adams Coastal Wheat is a yellow- colored brew with a cloudy body and an unusual aroma that combines grassy wheat with a small amount of spice. The head of foam is only slight, and the beer doesn’t make a very positive first impression.
As for the taste, well, it also fails to impress. The flavor is lemony/citrusy with pale wheat, yeast, bread, and spice in the background. The finish is a little sour and the body of the beer is a little on the slick/oily side.
Samuel Adams Coastal Wheat has been brewed since 2009 and it rates as one of the brewery’s weaker products. It does have a decent amount of wheat and yeast flavor that try to keep it intereresting, but the main problem I have with this beer is its odd aroma and taste. Once you take a whiff of this beer, you may not even want to take a sip. The balance is off, and the same can be said of the flavor.
I like and respect the Boston Beer company and its Samueal Adams lineup. This company has done wonders in helping the craft beer business take off and its efforts to educate the public on craft beer are well- known and commendable. However, even the experts at Samuel Adams can make the occasional malt beverage blunder and that is exactly what they have done with Samuel Adams Coastal Wheat. Unless you really love the taste of lemons in your beer, this is a product that should be avoided.
