A beer festival in a cold climate? Well, if it is held indoors…..
Beer festivals are usually associated with warm weather and for that reason, January is obviously not a month one would expect to find a beer festival in any of the higher latitudes. However, some locales recognize the growing popularity of craft beer and have decided to host indoor festivals during the cooler months of the year. One of them happens to be Columbus, Ohio and its upcoming event is the Columbus Winter Beerfest. Here are the facts:
Sponsor: CD101 Radio
Where: Greater Columbus Convention Center, 400 N. High Street, Columbus, Ohio
When: January 14 and January 15, 2011
Hours: 6:30pm to 11pm each day
Cost: $30 in advance; $40 at the door
This beerfest will feature 10,000 square feet of space with craft beer offered from Ohio breweries and other brewing operations from around the United States. Organizers are promising approximately 160 craft beers from 45 different breweries. National breweries like Magic Hat, Stone Brewing, Breckenridge, Mendocino, and Dogfish Head will be serving up their many fine brews along with regional Ohio breweries such as Wooden Shoe, Rivertown Brewing, Maumee Bay, and more
Entertainment at this event will be provided by several bands: Two Cow Garage, Ghost Shirt, and the Wonder Twin Powers (Friday), along with the Phantods, Receiver, and the Armacords (Saturday). Food will be available as well, and general admission gains access to the event, beer, and entertainment.
Columbus Beerfest is still in its infancy, having kicked off in May, 2010, but organizers plan to host this event twice each year; once in May and once in January. Beer lovers in Columbus and across Ohio should mark their calenders for each of these months and head to this enjoyable, entertaining event. Great beer and live music for only $30 per person is going to be difficult to beat and makes for a great night of beer education, socialization, and entertainment.
