Fans of Stone Brewing have a new “go- to” beer when they crave the taste of hops but don’t feel like the extremes of an Arrogant Bastard or Ruination IPA. The new beer is called, appropriately, Stone Go To IPA and it’s now part of the regular Stone year- round lineup.
Why another IPA, you ask? Well, everyone knows that Stone Brewing is the godfather of hops and most of its beers are so well- hopped they cause contortions of the face and other sometimes unexpected bodily reactions. These big, hoppy brews are great when in the mood, but sometimes, beer drinkers want something a little more easy- going. Stone Go To IPA is that beer, a somewhat milder IPA (at least by Stone standards) with lower alcohol and bitterness.
Stone To Go IPA is what is commonly referred to as a “session” beer, a term that simply means it is good for general consumption and for more everyday purposes. To achieve its hoppy goals (after all, this is Stone Brewing!) but keep the alcohol in check, Stone Brewing uses a technique called “hop bursting”, whereby the beer is infused with a large amount of hops during the final phase of the brewing process.
“Hop bursting really helped us overcome the challenge of making a lower alcohol full- flavored brew that doesn’t taste thin or watery”, said Stone brewmaster Mitch Steele. “By using this method, we created an intense hop aroma and flavor along with a smoother bitterness. We’re thrilled to add this to our regular lineup, especially since most of us at Stone are ready to call this our personal ‘go- to’ beer.”
Stone Go To IPA is brewed using nine different hop varieties and features hop- influenced aromas such as peach, citrus, and melon. The beer will be available in six packs of 12 oz. bottles and will be sold year- round. Seek it out at retail outlets where Stone Brewing products are presently sold.
