India Pale Ale is a style that many consider an acquired taste, and that includes seasoned beer drinkers who enjoy the style and look forward to a nice dose of hops when the mood calls for it. Some IPA are complicated to make, but like with most beer styles, there are some simple alternatives. If you want an easy to make IPA, consider this extract recipe:
Beer Ingredients:
• Eight pounds of dry malt extract
• One- half pound of crystal malt
• Six ounces of chocolate malt
• 3 oz. Galena hops
• 3 oz. Cascade hops
• 1 oz. Saaz hops
Homebrew Process:
Add crystal malt and chocolate malt to a bag and place in brewing pot of water. Heat for 30 minutes until water boils. Once boiling has commenced, remove the bag of grains and add both the malt extract and Galena hops. Boil mixture for 90 minutes. At the 75 minute mark, add 2 oz cascade hops. For the final two minutes of the boil, add 1 oz cascade hops. Ferment for 10 days, then transfer to secondary fermenter and add 1 oz saaz hops. Bottle after 1 week and age for at least four weeks.
