President Obama may cause rifts in government, but politics aside, it is obvious that the U.S. Chief Executive appreciates good beer. The famous “Beer Summit” from 2009 helped to solidify the president’s reputation as a lover of fine brew and now, three years later, Obama is still quaffing (responsibly, of course) away as he hits the campaign trail and hopes to lock up a second term.
It is great that our U.S. president is a budding connoisseur of malt beverages, but what is even more interesting is that the president has been enjoying not just any beer, but specially made home- brewed beer. This has sparked the curiosity of beer geeks everywhere, many of whom would love to know exactly what goes into this exclusive White House recipe. All that is known, at the moment, is that the president has been imbibing among a set of three different
home brews and one of them happens to be a honey ale known to be made, in part, with the sweet nectar gathered from First Lady Michelle Obama’s own beehive.
The interest in the recipe for this homebrew has, believe it or not, resulted in official requests to release the ingredients and procedure. There was even a Freedom of Information Act request to publish the recipe, but the White House is, unfortunately, not subject to Freedom of Information initiatives.
Undeterred in their pursuit, curious citizens have now launched a petition to get the White House to release the recipe and this time, it looks like the effort could be successful. White House Press Secretary Jay Carney says the White House will release the recipe if the petition, found at the White House web site, reaches the 25,000 threshold by September 17, 2012.
If curiosity has the best of you, go to this link and submit your signature. At last check, the number of signatures was approaching 5,000. This is far short of the number needed, but there are still a few weeks before the September 17, 2012 deadline. Submit your signature, spread the word, and who knows? An official piece of top- secret White House information just might makes its way to the light of the public eye.
