What’s so special about Miller Light? The taste? The color? The calories?

One of the best- selling beers in the United States, Miller Lite is a standard American light lager that was first introduced in the 1970’s and continues to enjoy great success in the sales department. It became popular mainly due to the memorable television commercials that featured celebrity endorsements and the now famous “less filling, tastes great” advertising slogan/debate.
Man Law – Don’t waste beer!
Looking at Miller Lite from a critical standpoint, however, reveals little to be desired. The beer is very light in color and flavor and it offers little in the way of visual or sensory enticements. Starting with the appearance, Miller Lite is bland and forgettable. It has a light color with an aroma that is clean but with only slightly floral and grainy hints. The body of Miller Lite is very bubbly, but there is almost no foam: A clear sign that this beer isn’t going to rank among the better examples of its or any other style.
The flavor of Miller Lite could be described as very light and almost tasteless. There is some flavor, but the tastes present are generally those of simple, light grains like corn and mild barley with some metallic notes and little if any hop character. Basic grains and various adjuncts form the basis of the taste and Miller Lite, while somewhat sweet at moments, finishes dry and mostly forgettable.
In spite of its less than steller taste and appearance, Miller Lite continues to shine and the main reason is the reduced calories. With fewer than 100 calories in a 12 oz. serving, Miller Lite is one of the lightest beer products available on the market and its lighter body combines with the reduced carbohydrates to produce a beer that is, indeed, less filling than the average brew. Miller Lite also makes for a decent, thirst- quenching glass of refreshment on a hot summer day and its taste is about as non- offensive as a malt beverage can possible be. But the overall flavor and character are a little too light for my taste, and they lead to a rating that is below average overall.
