Dos Equis Special Lager isn’t a world class product, but it does offer good, clean refreshment with a decent level of flavor for a beer of this style.
Mexican food is a treat to the senses and it ranks among the most popular ethnic foods among Americans. Likewise, Mexican beer products are also popular with Americans and many of them are natural accompaniments to Mexican food. One Mexican beer that is growing in popularity is Dos Equis Special Lager, a simple, refreshing brew.
Beer Bio:
Style: Pale Lager
Alcohol Level: 4.8 percent by volume

Dos Equis Special Lager pours to a pale straw color with a body that is crystal clear. There is very little foam on this beer and its nose is nothing special. The aroma combines a touch of hops with a dash of pale malt and a slight amount of skunkiness.
Dos Equis Special Lager offers a crisp, refreshing taste that combines pale malt, light grains, corn, and a dash of hops. The overall profile is sweet, but there is a slight bitterness in the finish. This quickly fades back to the flavor of sweet malt in the aftertaste.
Dos Equis is making a name for itself and increasing in popularity thanks to its advertising campaign, featuring “The Most Interesting Man in the World”. I’m not sure who is responsible for creating this campaign, but the ads are very good and they have certainly led to greater name recognition for the brand. The ads are short, but the Dos Equis brand is clearly identified and sales have undoubtedly benefitted from this advertising campaign.
As for the beer, well, Dos Equis Special Lager is a good, clean, refreshing product and it goes great with Mexican fare. It isn’t outstanding by any means, but it does taste better than most American- style lagers. It is fairly smooth and easy to drink and it isn’t filling. Dos Equis Special Lager could be improved immediately if the brewers would make one simple change: Eliminate the green bottle. As any serious student of beer knows, green bottles offer little protection from light and they are responsible for the “skunky” aroma and taste common to beer packaged in this manner. Dos Equis Special Lager isn’t as skunky as some other green- bottle brews, but there is a touch of this unpleasant smell and it could be eliminated completely by making this one simple change.
Dos Equis Special Lager isn’t a world class product, but it does offer good, clean refreshment with a decent level of flavor for a beer of this style. I won’t be replacing any of my favorite beer products with Dos Equis Special Lager anytime soon, but this is still a good beer product that makes a great beverage choice with a traditional Mexican meal.
