Brooklyn Sorachi Ace is different from most other beer. In appearance, it seems typical at first, with its yellow/golden color and its subtle nose that offers light citrus, light spices, and light malt. However, this beer is much bubblier than other beer products, producing a large amount of foam that will easily overflow your glass if you’re not careful.
The flavor of Brooklyn Sorachi Ace is interesting and very different from the typical brew. Flavors present include lemon, herbs, and even a touch of butter, with light pale malts in the background. This beer has a creamy texture and a dry finish, even though there is a hint of sweetness in the middle. The beer is medium in body and easy drinking. Brooklyn Brewing creates this product using German two- row barley, Sorachi Ace hops, and Belgian yeast. The beer is dry- hopped with additional Sorachi Ace hops and champagne yeast used in the final steps of the brewing process.
Brooklyn Sorachi Ace is quite different from other beer products and it’s complex in an interesting way. As I took additional sips, I kept trying to put my finger on the many flavors present and continued to discover more and more as time progressed. This complex brew doesn’t fail to intrigue and most consumers will continue to discover more and more interesting flavors as they take additional sips.
Besides the interesting flavor combination, this beer has other interesting qualities. First, it is very bubbly, thanks in large part to the addition of champagne yeast. Then, there is the packaging. Brooklyn Sorachi Ace is bottled in a 750 ml, wine size bottle, sealed with a cork. Finally, there is the yeast sediment in the bottom of the bottle. Other beer products have sediment, and they usually impart a yeasty flavor on the beer itself. However, the taste of Brooklyn Sorachi Ace is not as yeasty in taste as other beers with similar physical characteristics. Again, this is an interesting quality and it took me by surprise.
If you like beer that is out of the ordinary but not over the top, then you will enjoy Brooklyn Sorachi Ace. It is a tasty, complex golden ale from one of America’s finest craft brewing operations and while it might be a little costly, the enjoyable and memorable qualities make it a beer worth trying.
