Beer magazine is written with younger drinkers in mind and its articles tend to be a little more carefree.
Beer lovers like to read about their favorite beverage but, unfortunately, there are only a handful of magazines and other periodicals dedicated to the love of brew. However, the genre is slowly expanding and one of the newer entries is Beer Magazine, a publication aimed at the younger crowd.
Beer magazine is published once every two months and it was launched in 2007 as a publication geared toward the younger beer drinker who considers his/her brew more an accompaniment to entertainment than a fine beverage to savor. This magazine has more regular departments than most magazines (about 12 of them, last time I checked), along with a handful of featured articles in each issue. The magazine covers beer events, beer trivia, recipes, drinking games, homebrewing, news, taste- testing, and more.
Because Beer Magazine is written with younger drinkers in mind, its articles tend to be a little more carefree in nature and a little more inclinded toward humor. In addition, Beer Magazine can be counted on to include the pictures of females throughout and each issue I have read thus far includes a little female enticement on the front cover. Some may feel this is sexist, but one must remember that the majority of beer drinkers are male and the target audience of this magazine is young people. What do young men like? Yes, beer and sex. So, from a business perspective the cover photos make perfect sense.
Beer Magazine is a fun publication, but I must admit that it’s not the type of magazine I plan to reach for to quench my thirst for beer- related knowledge. I like a little fun, but I prefer a slightly more serious angle for a beer publication. The magazine’s unofficial motto could easily be “who cares- let’s drink”! There was a time when I would have related more strongly to this philosophy and there are still times when I do. But the image of beer as partying tool and nothing more is not the image I prefer.
Beer Magazine is a little too carefree overall for my tastes, but I can certainly see how younger drinkers will soak up the content and chug this publication with abandon. The departments and articles on everything from beer road trips, to recipes, to entertainment are sure to be a hit with the younger crowd.
