Appalachian Mountain Brewery has actually had a good deal of success at this competition. A quick look at past winners shows that the Boone, NC brewery won medals in each of the past 4 years, taking home one medal in 2013, 2014, and 2016. Prior to this year, the high water mark was 2015 when Appalachian Mountain Brewery won three total medals.
2017 was the most competitive year yet for the U.S. Open Beer Championships. More than 6,000 beers were entered into the competition this year across more than 100 style categories. The competition is also relatively young, having been founded in 2009.
To celebrate its success, Appalachian Mountain Brewery plans to re- release Daniel’s Double across the state of North Carolina in September. The beer, like the city in which Appalachian Mountain Brewery is located, is named after American Pioneer Daniel Boone. It has already received craft beer fan acclaim, with an overall 4+ rating out of 5 stars in both Beer Advocate and in Untappd. Now, with its Gold Medal at the U.S. Open Beer Championships, this 9 percent alcohol by volume, 97 IBU beer can claim competitive recognition as well, the first of likely many medals and awards for this high quality brew.
