Musicians of all stripes often involve themselves in merchandising. Many among us may recall owning a set of KISS dolls back in the 1970s/1980s and others may claim to have owned memorabilia relating to Elvis Presley, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and countless others. Now, another band has entered the merchandising fray: Australian rockers AC/DC with their own brand of beer, AC/DC Australian Hardrock German Beer.
Beer Style and Availability:
AC/DC Australian Hardrock German Beer is a pale lager- style brew and sources say it is lighter than average and more thirst quenching than most. It is brewed by Karlsberg Brewery, a German brewer, and is produced in accordance with the German Purity Law of 1516. It is packaged in pint- size cans and its availability is somewhat limited in the United States, although this will change in the near future as the beer has already gained approval to be sold in the USA.
What to Expect:
Here at Great Beer Now, we have yet to obtain a can of this beer, but based on reviews from others, posted in Rate Beer, Beer Advocate, and elsewhere, the prospects are not too promising. Others have described AC/DC Australian Hardrock German Beer as a little too light and watery with a taste that is grainy, cardboard- like, etc. It contains 5% alcohol by volume and is brewed according to the German Purity Law of 1516. This means the ingredients cannot include anything other than the basics (malted barley, hops, yeast, and water), so it would seem to have some merits. But those who have tried it and reviewed it claim it is rather ordinary at best.
What Next?:
AC/DC Australian Hardrock German Beer doesn’t appear to have won many fans as of yet, but it could be worthy of a sample, just to get one’s hands on what could later prove to be a collector’s can. We at Great Beer Now will reserve final judgment on the flavor until later, but it does seem like a potentially fun beer and fans of the Australian rockers will probably find themselves predisposed to liking a beer named after one of rock music’s legends. Grab a can if you can find it, dial up your favorite AC/DC tune, and judge for yourself. The beer may not be stellar, but it may go very well with AC/DC music, which could have been the intent all along.
